English seven card stud
After each online poker player has received two cards face down and three face up, betting after each face-up card, each active player may reject one of his cards and receive another. If he rejects a face-up card his new card is dealt face up, if he rejects a face-down card, his new card is face down, maintaining the two-down, three-up pattern. After a further betting interval each player may reject and receive another card either face up or face down as before. The final betting interval ensues. Online players may stand pat, and need not reject a card on the last two rounds, but any player who stands pat on the sixth round must also do so on the seventh.
Mexican stud or Flip
The first two cards are dealt face down, and each player selects one to turn over as an up card, keeping the second as a hole-card. Everyone does this simultaneously, so one player’s choice does not affect anyone else’s.
In following rounds (there are commonly five or seven card per game) the cards are dealt face down. Each player looks at his new card, and must either turn it face up or switch it with his hole–card, turning his previous hole-card face up. Again, players turn up their chosen cards simultaneously. Betting takes place after each round from the second deal onwards.
Minor variations
The number of cards dealt and which of them are face down or face up, and in which order the face-up and face-down cards come, allow other variation in Stud Poker.
The first betting interval always comes after the first up-card, and further betting intervals follow each subsequent card. In all cases players choose five cards from those dealt to them to form their best poker hand.
FIRST DEAL Players generally turn over their lower card as an up-card.
SUBSEQUENT DEALS - Players choose whether to turn their old hole-card or the new card face up.
Five-card Stud
As a variant to the game described above, Five-card Stud is sometimes played with the final card dealt face down, the sequence thus being one down, three up, one down.
Six-card Stud
The sequence of the cards dealt is one down, four up, one down.
Eight-card Stud
The commonest sequence is two down, four up, two down, although it is sometimes two down, four up, one down, one up.
Nine- or Ten-card Stud
Rarely played. The sequence for both is two down, four up and the rest down, although by preference the last card in each case can be dealt face up.
*wild cards in stud
Wild cards may be used in stud Poker as in other kinds of poker, but the action hardly needs much pepping up, and it is not common.
